Our move

By now, many if not all of you will know that Jude and I will be leaving St Anne's in January and moving to Vancouver Island, Canada. I will be taking up a post of Rector at the parish of St Philip-by-the-sea, Lantzville. If you want to find out more , please look at their website: www.stphilipslantzville.org

Our last Sunday at St Anne's will be 12th January.

This has been a very difficult decision and we will miss our many friends in Bagshot. Hopefully, we will have plenty of time to make our farewells over the next couple of months.

The churchwardens, Yvonne and Gordon, will be contacting the archdeacon soon to find out more about the process of appointing a new vicar for St Anne's and I know that who ever is appointed will be a very fortunate person. We have enjoyed the last 6 years a lot and will carry with us many happy memories of Bagshot.        David

Pickle Night - 9th November

The first Pickle Night Dinner is being organised by the Friends of St Anne's and is an opportunity to invite friends to come to a good dinner and find out more about the small part Bagshot played in way that the news of the victory at Trafalgar was brought from Falmouth to London. It is also a chance for people to find out more about the Friends of St Anne's and how they can support their local church.

Tickets cost £10 per person and include a three course meal, a tot of rum and a glass of port - all essential for a proper Pickle Night (or so I am reliably informed!).

If you would like to come to this event in the Church Centre (and bring a friend or two as well), then please contact me, either in person of by email at vicar@saintannebagshot.org.uk                    David

The Besom - sweep suffering away

The Besom is a nationwide church-based charity, with an office in Camberley. It helps people make a difference. It provides a bridge between those who want to give time, money, things or skills and those who are in need. It provides emergency food packs and basic supplies to those in particular need. The Camberley office covers Bagshot and they have noticed a dramatic increase over the the last 6 months in people from our village needing help.

We would like to develop a link with the Besom, so we can help them with the things that they need and possibly encourage people to give some of their time as well. We will be welcoming someone from the Besom to speak at a 10am service  in September. Before then, it would be good if we could have one or two people prepared to act as link people between St Anne's and the Besom. The rôle would consist of keeping in contact with the Camberley office and making sure that important information is passed on to St. Anne's.

The time required should not be much, but I believe that this will be a very important development for St Anne's. The signs are that there will be a significant increase in levels of debt and poverty in our area in the next few years and so the demands upon The Besom will continue to increase. If you might be interested in becoming a link person  please do come and have a chat with me.

For more details visit www.besom.com            David

Jude has decided to step down from leading the Sunday School at the end of July. Therefore, we will need some one else to take on this important role. We have a great bunch of children, so it will be a lot of fun. Also, the church has a subscription to a website which provides most of the ideas and suggestions, so preparing and leading should be much easier than you might think. If you are interested in taking this on (or sharing the role with someone else), please see David or Jude as soon as possible.

Annual Parochial Church Meeting

The Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) takes place in the Church Centre, following the 10am service on Sunday 28th April. It's really a series of three meetings. One, solely to elect the Churchwardens, is called the Meeting of Parishioners and is over in about two minutes. Churchwardens are elected for the coming year. They can actually serve for a maximum period of six years, after which they must retire. It has been our custom to serve for four years.

The APCM records the activities of the previous year and is the main meeting and it is at this meeting that PCC members are elected.  To stand for the PCC you do need to be on the electoral roll and today is the last day for receipt of forms. So if you haven’t filled in a form then please do it today!!! .

We do need ‘fresh blood’ so if you have ever wanted to be on the PCC then here’s your big chance. There are nomination forms at the back of church or nominations can be taken at the meeting itself.  The third meeting is a short PCC Meeting.

Please try and attend this event.

Lent Course - Everyday bread

Since Jesus of Nazareth called together a group of followers some people have found in their Christian faith a treasure which illuminates their whole life. Others have found a way of worshipping, a way of belonging, a way of praying and thinking about God which fills them with enthusiasm for changing the world around them! Yet the treasure may not be found and the way remains hidden. Sometimes, especially to newcomers, Christianity looks like a closed book instead of a glowing treasure.  This course presents a Living Christianity, provides a way of walking in God’s love and justice, encourages honest protest about where we are falling short of God’s kingdom, and offers routes into worship and prayer. The course continues.

Lent Course - Everyday bread

Since the days when Jesus of Nazareth called together a group of followers some people have found in their Christian faith a treasure which illuminates their whole life. Where is the way in? Sometimes, to those who are already on the way of Christ, faith becomes stale, lacking obvious connection with our life let alone vibrancy and enjoyment. Sometimes, if we are questioners, the questions which matter to us most seem to go unheard, as if they should be left by us well outside the door of the Church. There seems to be no friend to listen to us as we search.

This course presents a Living Christianity, provides a way of walking in God’s love and justice, encourages honest protest about where we are falling short of God’s kingdom, and offers routes into worship and prayer. It is about enjoyment, exploring in the company of others a living faith which may become for us a Way of Life, a “pearl of great price.”

There are 5 sessions: Engaging,  Listening, Responding, Sharing, Sending and the course  starts on Thursday 21st February. Depending upon numbers we may run this as one group or as a number of smaller groups meeting in homes. Please sign up on the sheet at the back of church
